This mithral amulet is in the shape of a crescent moon with inlaid precious moonstones and silver filigree to adorn its surface in the shape of a pair of eyes surrounded by seven stars.
The amulet is strung on a mithral chain.

"Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" is a version of an Amulet of the Devout that can only be used by a cleric or paladin of the moon goddess Selune.
"Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" can be used as a holy symbol and spellcasting focus by clerics and paladins of Selune.

While you wear "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet":

  • You gain a bonus to spell attack rolls and the saving throw DCs of your spells. The bonus is determined by the amulet's rarity (uncommon = +1, rare = +2, very rare = +3).
  • You can use your Channel Divinity feature without expending one of the feature's uses. Once this property is used, it can't be used again until the next dawn.
  • You can use an action to learn which way is north since Selune, as a goddess, is known for navigation.

    "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" glows with a pale radiance in moon light, shedding dim light in a 5-foot radius.

    While in possession of "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet", the bearer has a connection to the Moonmaiden and feels fortunate and optimistic about what the future holds.
    When the bearer of "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" contemplates or undertakes a malevolent act, that same connection enhances pangs of conscience.

    History:

  • "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulets" are created during the Mystery of Night, an annual religous ceremony for followers of Selune.
  • Selune, the Moonmaiden, will turn offerings of wine and milk into Moonfire, which is used to create a variety of magical items, including "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulets"
  • Daran Edermath, a fellow follower of Selune, presented his "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet +1" to Pearl of the Moon as a reward for defeating King Grol at Kragmaw Castle and his goblinoid minions.
  • Pearl of the Moon donated a tithe (100 gp) to the "The Order of the Gauntlet" to help Daran with managing operations around Phandalin.
  • After stopppng the "Black Spider" at Wave Echo Cave and destroying the undead haunting the caves, Daran Edermath and Pearl performed a ritual increasing Pearl's bond with Selune.
  • This improved "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" from +1 to +2.
  • Pearl of the Moon donated a tithe (+400 gp) to the "The Order of the Gauntlet" to further help Daran with managing operations around Phandalin.
  • After the defeat of the Blood Moon Cult, the Temple of Selune in Farway enhanced "Selune's Crescent Moon Amulet" for Pearl to have the compass ability (+50 gp).

    Design Notes:

    Its cost varies by the bonus it provides
    = 50 gp for the compass ability (common ability/minor property)
    = +100 gp for the Amulet of the Devout with a +1 bonus (uncommon item).
    = +500 gp for the Amulet of the Devout with a +2 bonus (rare item).
    = +5,000 gp for the Amulet of the Devout with a +3 bonus (very rare item).

    Inspired by the tables in the DMG on page 142-143 to make this magic item unique. Basically, they provide ideas for the creator, history, minor property and quirk.
