Moon Bracers
(wondrous item, rare)

Last Updated: November 20, 2023
Campaign: The Lost Mine

These silver bracers are each embossed with a large pale moonstone.

While wearing "Moon Bracers", you can use it to cast the dimension door spell as an action.
This property of the cape can't be used again until the next dawn.

You teleport yourself from your current location to any other spot within their 500 ft range. You arrive at exactly the spot desired. It can be a place you can see, one you can visualize, or one you can describe by stating distance and direction.

You can bring along objects as long as their weight doesn't exceed what you can carry. You can also bring one willing creature of your size or smaller who is carrying gear up to its carrying capacity. The creature must be within 5 feet of you when you cast this spell.

If you would arrive in a place already occupied by an object or a creature, you and any creature traveling with you each take 4d6 force damage, and the spell fails to teleport you.

A moon beam appears and marks both the spot where you disappear from as well as where you appear at your destination.

History:

  • "Moon Bracers" are created during the Mystery of Night, an annual religous ceremony for followers of Selune.
  • Selune, the Moon Maiden, will turn offerings of wine and milk into Moonfire, which is used to create a variety of magical items, including "Moon Bracers".
  • Pearl obtained her "Moon Bracers" from the Temple of Selune in Farway.

    Design Notes:

    Its cost is 500 gp.
= 500 gp for dimension door 1/day (rare ability)

Inspired by the tables in the DMG on page 142-143 to make this magic items unique. Basically, they provide ideas for the creator, history, minor property and quirk.
    - creator: n/a
    - history: Religious (Selune religious item)
    - minor property: n/a
    - quirk: n/a

"Moon Bracers" are originally from "3.5 Magic of Faerun", and is created by the followers of Selune. The 3.5 version also acted as Bracers of Armor, however, this version does not have this feature since that would require attunement if 5e Bracers of Defense were included. This version of the "Moon Bracers" are basically a re-skinned "Cape of the Mountebank".
