Loudmouth
(wondrous item, rare)

Last Updated: March 3, 2024
Campaign: The Lost Mine

This thick brass and ceramic hollow cone weighs 25 lbs and must be held with two hands.

"Loudmouth" allows the user to cast a stronger variant of the spell "Thunderwave".

As an action, you may expend one of the 3 charges which will release a concussive blast in a 15-foot cone originating from the device.
Each creature in the cone must succeed on a DC 15 constitution saving throw.
On a failure, a creature takes 5d6 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you.
On a successful save the creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed.

In addition, unsecured objects completely within the area of effect are automatically pushed 10 feet away and the blast emits a thunderous boom audible out 300 feet.

All charges are regained after a long rest.

History:

  • "Loudmouth" was originally kept within the steel treasure vault of Fort Egon under Commander Evander, a middle-aged fighter with fiery orange-red long hair.
  • Commander Evander and his troops at Fort Egon were slain by a hobgoblin force.
  • The hobgoblins were led by Ugon, a male warrior wielding magic plate and two magic longswords, and his second Vola, a female fighter wielding magic plate and magic greatsword.
  • The adventurers recovered "Loudmouth" once Ugon, Vola and the hobgoblins at Fort Egan were defeated.

    Design Notes:
