Javelin of Destruction
(weapon, uncommon)

Last Updated: February 4, 2023
Campaign: Tablets of the Old Ones

This lizardfolk javalin appears primitive. Draconic runes are etched into its shaft, which glow with a fiendish red glow.

The "Javelin of Destruction" is considered a magic weapon, but does not provide a bonus to hit or damage.
So long as the command word is not used, the "Javelin of Destruction" can continue to be used as a magin weapon.

When you hurl it and speak its command word, it transforms into a bolt of red destructive energy, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 120 feet.
Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one.

The red destructive energy turns back into a javelin when it reaches the target.
Make a ranged weapon attack against the target.
On a hit, the target takes damage from the javelin plus 4d6 lightning damage from the red destructive energy.

If used to do lightning damage, whether the "Javelin of Destruction" hits or misses its target, the "Javelin of Destruction" is consumed by the red destructive energy and turns to ash.

History:

  • Jabba and his red flame tribe of destuctive lizardfolk seemed to have had a bountiful supply of "Javelins of Destruction" on hand to attack and destroy their enemies.
  • Moogoo the the Magnificient and Vlad each recovered a "Javelin of Destruction" from Jabba and his red flame tribe of destuctive lizardfolk.
  • Vlad has since used his "Javelin of Destruction", Moogoo still has his.

    Design Notes:

    Its cost is 50 gp.
    - 100 gp for being an uncommon item but divided by 2 for being a consumable item.
