Deikonran Stunner
(wand, rare, requires attunement by a spellcaster)

Last Updated: November 20, 2022
Campaign: The Lost Mine

This slender metallic wand resembles a bolt of lightning with branches of electricity arcing along its length.

The "Deikonran Stunner" is a Wand of Lightning Bolts (DMG p211).

This wand has 7 charges.
The wand regains ld6 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn.
If you expend the wand's last charge, roll a d20.
On a 1, the wand crumbles into ashes and is destroyed.

While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the lightning bolt spell from it.
A stroke of lightning forming a line 100 feet long and 5 feet wide blasts out from you in a direction you choose.
Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw (save DC 15).

For 1 charge, you cast the 3rd-level version of the spell.
A creature takes 8d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The lightning ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.

You can increase the spell slot level by one for each additional charge you expend.
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by ld6 for each slot level above 3rd.

History:

  • Obsidiana Moonsong found the Wand of Lightning Bolts in the grip of an ancient dwarven skeleton submerged in a pool within Wave Echo Cave.
  • Deikonran had decided to name his new magic shortbow the "Obsidiana Poker".
  • In retaliation, Obsidiana Moonsong named her new Wand of Lightning Bolts the "Deikonran Stunner".
  • Obsidiana really wanted to wear those flashy Boots of Speed, but had to unattune to the Wand of Lightning to do so.
  • Obsidiana loaned the Wand of Lightning to Corwyn for his imp familiar, Dusk II, to use.
  • Dusk II's impish grin as he blasts lightning bolts at his foes with fiendish delight suggests Obsidiana might not get her wand back... ever.

    Design Notes:

Its cost is 500 gp, since the Wand of Lightning Bolts is a rare item.
