"The Tickler"
(staff, uncommon)

Last Updated: November 1, 2023
Campaign: The Lost Mine

This slender quarterstaff is made of white birch and decorated with a feather motif. It weighs 2 pounds.

"The Tickler" is a Celestial Quarterstaff +1, which provides a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls.
Although made from white birch, it is as strong as oak.

While holding "The Tickler", the bearer can cast the "feather fall" spell as a reaction.
Choose up to five falling creatures within a 60 ft range.
A falling creature's rate of descent slows to 60 feet per round until the spell ends after 1 minute.
If the creature lands before the spell ends, it takes no falling damage and can land on its feet, and the spell ends for that creature.

"The Tickler" has 3 charges, casting featherfall requires the expenditure of 1 charge.
The staff regains 1-3 expended charges each day at dawn.
If you expend the staff's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff turns to feathers and are blown away by the four winds, forever gone.

History:

  • "The Tickler" was created by a race of Celestials eons ago.
  • "The Tickler" was found in the armoury of Kragmaw Castle, which was filled with goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears. It is not known where or how they obtained the "Feather Staff".
  • Obsidiana Moonsong, a female albino drow bard, claimed "The Tickler" as her own.
  • Dusk, Coryn's fiendish imp familiar, finds the presence of "The Tickler" repulsive and keeps giving Obsidiana Moonsong nasty glances.

    Design Notes:

    Its value is 200 gp.
= 100 gp for Quarterstaff +1 (uncommon ability)
    = 100 gp for "featherfall"(uncommon ability)
