Merfolk Friendship Ring
(ring, rare, requires attunement)

Last Updated: October 24, 2023
Campaign: The Lost Mine

This ring is crafted from seashell and worked coral, as hard as any metal.

Once attuned to the Merfolk Friendship Ring, the bearer is protected as if wearing a ring of protection.
This provides a +l bonus to AC and saving throws while wearing this ring.

In addition, as an action, this ring will transform its bearer into a merfolk, complete with gills and a tail.
This allows the bearer to breathe underwater, and have a swimming speed of 60 feet.
It takes another action to transform back into one's original air-breathing land humanoid form.

The ring bearer can also speak and understand the Aquan language.
While worn, the wearer has a sense of well-being, the same feeling one gets when with a group of close friends.

History:

  • In the waters below the cliffs upon which the monastery/library of Candlekeep stands are tribes of merfolk. These tribes have a long standing relationship with Candlekeep. Merfolk give these types of rings to to express deep friendship with non-water breathers.
  • This ring was given as a gift and remembrance to Sigh Onic from his fellow student and best friend, the merfolk Kril'lan as Sigh was to leave Candlekeep with the promise to return and relate his adventures.

    Design Notes:

    Its cost is 650 gp.
