Potion of Ogre Strength
(potion, common, cursed)

Last Updated: April 16, 2024
Campaign: Monsters with Class (Goblins)

This vial contains a transparent liquid that has a sliver of an ogre's fingernail and a goblin's fingernail floating inside it.

When you drink a "Potion of Ogre Strength", your Strength score changes for 1 hour to that of an ogre (STR 19/+4).
The potion has no effect on you if your Strength is equal to or greater than that score.

Cursed:When you drink this potion, roll a d6, on a 1 or a 2, your strength is reduced to that of a goblin instead (STR = 8/-1) for 1 hour.
NOTE: The effects of drinking a second "Potion of Ogre Strength" will not occur until the effects of the first one have worn off.

History:

  • Ogres have often bullied and lived with goblin tribes.
  • This has given goblin alchemist's the opportunity to develop a "Potion of Ogre Strength" and brew them for their tribal warriors in battle.
  • The formula to brew a "Potion of Ogre Strength" is often written down on a dwarven rune inscribed tablet written in goblin and hidden somewhere within a goblin warren.
  • Do to a flaw in the process, there is a chance that it will act as a "Potion of Goblin Strength" instead.
  • For a goblin or someone who is already that weak or weaker, this is not an issue, for others... well... it can be a nasty surprise...

    Design Notes:

    Its value is 25 gp.
    - 50 gp for being a common item but divided by 2 for being a consumable item.
