Potion of Haste
(potion, rare)

Last Updated: February 22, 2023
Campaign: Tablets of the Old Ones

This vial contains a fluorescent fizzy lime-yellow fluid.

The person drinking the "Potion of Haste" becomes hasted, as the spell, for one minute.

Until the potion's duration ends, the target gains:

  • double speed
  • a +2 bonus to AC
  • advantage on Dexterity saving throws
  • an additional action on each of its turns

That extra action can be used only to:

  • Attack (one weapon attack only)
  • Dash
  • Disengage
  • Hide
  • Use an Object

When the potion's duration ends, the target can't move or take actions until after its next turn, as a wave of lethargy sweeps over it.

    History:

  • Moogoo the Magnificient found the "Potion of Haste" in a pile of rubble within a cave being used as a lair by several basilisks in the underdark.

    Design Notes:

    Its cost is 250 gp.
    - 500 gp for being a rare item but divided by 2 for being a consumable item.

DM said we found a "Potion of Haste". Since could not find it in DMG, created the above stats.
Only to find later that in 5e, a "Potion of Haste" is now called a "Potion of Speed" which is "very rare" (sigh).
