Tablet of Anodresh
(wondrous item, artifact, requires attunement)

Last Updated: February 22, 2023
Campaign: Tablets of the Old Ones

This wooden tablet is inscribed with eleven rows of ancient runes in an unkown language.

The ancient runes on the "Tablet of Anodresh", once translated, can be read as follows:

Anodresh, Lord of the underworld, host of the dead, stern
holder of the boundary between death and life.
Cold flesh becomes spirit, bright eyes glint from shadows, lovers
long parted unite, families join once more.
Kind one, fearsome one, all this you see and welcome, all this
you encompass, light in dark, love in death.
Anodresh unseen, Lord of all who have lived and died, I pray
to you. Master of dreams, giver of wealth, receiver of those most
dear to us, lost to us, treasures all, all within your realm.
Great Anodresh, guardian of all who have passed to your
kingdom, gracious god to whom we all will go, I praise you.

The "Tablet of Anodresh" is known to sometimes magically transport itself short distances so as to find itself in the possession of those it deems worthy.
Those that are deemed worthy may find themselves drawn to the tablets location.
Attuning to the artifact takes an hour and during this time, those deemed worthy enter a trance as they commune with "Anodresh" directly and agree to be their avatar.
Once attuned, the bearer of the tablet is able to sense the direction to other "Tablets of the Old Ones".

The "Tablet of Anodresh" acts as a divine focus to cast spells with for Clerics of Anodresh.

Once attuned, the bearer of the "Tablet of Anodresh" gains the following abilities:

  • the character gains one class level as a Cleric of Anodresh (grave domain?) for free.

    History:

  • Captured and used as slave labour by gnolls in the under dark, Bruenor - Artisan of the Spellforge, Faeril Lastborn, Korit Solunn, Moogoo the Magnificient, Nera Aquilae, and Vlad, managed to eascape the gnolls, but now the companions must work together to escape the underdark and return to the surface.
  • The companions found the "Tablet of Anodresh" in an underdark tomb filled with undead after being guided there by Faeril Lastborn, a female half-elf paladin/warlock in possession of the "Tablet of Oblock".
  • Bruenor - Artisan of the Spellforge, a male dwarven diviner, was able to decipher the ancient runes and translate the text found on the "Tablet of Anodresh".
  • The "Tablet of Anodresh" initially tried to form a bond with Moogoo the Magnificient, a male half-orc barbarian. However, Moogoo rejected Anodresh, claiming he follows only Gruumsh, the orc god.
  • The "Tablet of Anodresh" is currently in the posession of Cyanwrath, a male dragonborn warrior (paladin?), who proved his worthiness to possess the "Tablet of Anodresh" by defeating the companions in combat.

    Design Notes:

As an artifact, this item is unique.

The "grave domain" is detailed in "Xanathar's Guide to Everything" on page 19.
