This expertly crafted quarterstaff is made from solid oak.
In the hands of a non-druid, Shillelagh of the Dawn is simply an oak staff that has a masterwork tip at each end. The masterwork quality provides a base +1 enhancement bonus to hit in combat with either tip.
The Shillelagh of the Dawn is an oak quarterstaff, masterwork/masterwork (+600 gp) that has been permenantly enchanted with the Shillelagh spell as a continuous effect (= 2,000 gp x 1 spell level x 1 caster level x 2 duration of minutes = +4,000 gp).
In the hands of a druid, Shillelagh of the Dawn gains a +1 enhancement bonus to hit and damage, and its baseline damage is 2d6 at each tip.
Note that while this +1 enhancement bonus is considered magical for purposes of overcoming DR, it does not count as a base +1 weapon bonus in terms of being able to add additional weapon enchantments. In fact, enchanting Shillelagh of the Dawn with a +1 weapon bonus will suppress the Shillelagh enchantment since the spell only works on non-magical weapons. However, adding other non-weapon enchantments that would allow the user to cast other types of spells from the staff would be allowed.
The weapon is only considered a masterwork weapon with respect to adding weapon crystals, so only least weapon crystals will work on it.
Shillelagh of the Dawn has been enchanted so the wielder can cast the following spells.
The Dawn spell (see the Spell Compendium) can be cast as a swift action once per day at the staff's caster level. All sleeping creatures in a 15-ft.-radius burst centered on the staff awaken. Those who are unconscious because of nonlethal damage wake up and are staggered. This spell does not affect dying creatures. The cost to add this ability = (2,000 gp x 1 x 0.5)/5 = 200 gp x 1.5 = +300 gp.
The Shillelagh of the Dawn is part of the Attire of the Sylvan Dawn magic item set.
