This massive warhammer is twice the normal size and heavy to lift. It is inscribed with archaic dwarven runes in the Duergar dialect.

Moradin's Doom is a Large Impact Collision Warhammer +1 that is also both intelligent and a minor artifact.

Moradin's Doom has been crafted by the Duergar to be much bigger than normal. As a result, its base damage is 1d12 instead of 1d8. However, while it a large weapon, it requires great strength to wield, instead of being based on a creatures size.

  • If STR = 20 or less, then the wielder will have a -2 to hit
  • If STR = 12 or less, then that individual cannot lift or use it

It has been enchanted with magic to provide a +1 enhancement bonus to hit and damage.

The Collision enchantment means Moradin's Doom does an additional +5 points of damage on a successful hit.

As a weapon of Impact, it threatens a critical hit on 19-20/x3.

As an intelligent weapon, Moradin's Doom is constantly trying to dominate its wielder (Will save vs Moradin's Doom's ego score). If it wins the struggle for dominance, it will insist that its wielder always carry Moradin's Doom wherever they go and to use it in any combat situation.

  • When Roryn Rockbottom was dominated by Moradin's Doom, he also lost the use of his paladin abilities to detect evil, lay on hands and smite evil.

The full capabilities of Moradin's Doom are unknown. However the following observations and speculations have been made.

  • As an intelligent weapon crafted by the Duergar, it most likely has a lawful evil alignment.
  • As a minor artifact, it most likely has a caster level of 20 for all its abilities.
  • Its ego score is at least 13 and likely much higher. Roryn Rockbottom had failed his will save with a total roll of 12.
  • It has exhibited telepathic abilities when it warned Roryn Rockbottom to "close his eyes" moments before flashing a blinding light.
  • It has the capability to flash a blinding light. So far, it has only used this ability once per day. If this is based on the Everbright ability, then Moradin's Doom is likely immune to acid damage and rusting effects.
  • It was able to cure Roryn Rockbottom in the midst of battle for 21 hp. So far, this healing ability has only been used once per day.
  • It was able to grant Roryn Rockbottom a +6 enhancement bonus to strength before battle. So far, this ability has been used twice in a day.

    History

  • Moradin's Doom was once used by the Duergar to forge mighty weapon's of war. Dwarven runes identify it as "Moradin's Doom".
  • While liberating the Third Hin Watchtower near Mortik Swamp from a Hag and aquatic ogres, Roryn Rockbottom found Moradin's Doom inside the Hag's chest that had been protected by a water elemental.
  • Moradin's Doom took control of Roryn Rockbottom, forcing him to use the giant warhammer in battle. While Moradin's Doom was in his possesion, Roryn lost many of his paladin abilities.
  • The Devoit Voice of Yondalla Gringa Thistlehair in Beluir was able to remove Roryn Rockbottom's curse, allowing him to rid himself of Moradin's Doom. It is unknown what the Hin have done with the Duergar warhammer.
