Dawn Solo is a female high elf abjuration wizard. Dawn was once an apprentice to a powerful archmage who mysteriously disappeared. She still has the purple handkerchief embroidered with his name which reminds her of her many lessons under his tutelage (advantage to arcana skill check, once/day) along with a letter she found addressed to her which posed a question she has not yet been able to answer. While investigating the archmage's disappearance, Dawn found herself in the town of Orlbar, at the foot of the Greypeak Mountains near the Weathercote Wood.
She has an owl familiar named "Winter".
Dawn entered the Weathercote Wood to rescue Darek Brewmont from the Death Knight. The path she took brought her before an old Temple of Amaunator, where she found some useful information. Her keen elvish senses spotted a cloak tangled in the forest. A magic Cloak of Protection. She found a rogue lair, and after learning of her quest to slay the Death Knight, they gave her a healing potion and a partial map of his lair and set her on her way. Dawn encountered Greybark, a treant, who gave her a gift, a magic longbow, made from Greybark itself. She found the Red Tree and fashioned a stake from a branch as she had learned. She also took a branch to create a Red Tree Staff as an arcane focus.
Dawn confronted the Death Knight in his lair. She had snuck up on him and launched a volley of magic missiles at it. The Death Knight came toward her, but she was not afraid. The Death Knight missed, and she launched another volley of magic missles at it. The Death Knight, in a rage, hit her hard, but her protective ward partially shielded her from the blow. Still, another blow like that would finish her so she drinks a healing potion. Dawn's flamebolt critically hits the Death Knight, burning his corpse to a cinder as it falls to the ground. Calmly, she drove the Red Tree stake through its lifeless heart, and the creature crumbled to dust. She brought the boy home, and claimed her reward.
Dawn Solo's quest for her former master, the Archmage, has brought her to Zhentil Keep. Once inside the city, Dawn goes into The Scoundrel's Tankard tavern. Plays a dice game of Dragon Slayer, each of the four players ante up a 100 gp. Dawn manages to be first to "Slay the Dragon", winning her the 400 gp pot (which includes her 100 gp ante). Afterwards, she heads out into the night and finds a nice-looking inn named The Zhentil Arms (5 gp/night), and has a luxurious long rest.
The next morning Dawn goes to Arcana Lane and wins the door prize at Melhuish's Magical Curiosities, and she buys some stuff too. She then visits Fodus the Clairvoyant, an elf, for a detailed scrying of her quest. Fodus tells her that "a stranger, in the garb of a Zhentarim soldier will approach you and ask you to take up a quest to rescue these lands from destruction. Your destiny lies in the mouth of a skull."
On her way to Market Square, Dawn meets a halfling with a lock to pick. Dawn accepts and critically succeeded in opening his little puzzle box and claiming the Skeleton Key inside. In Market Square, Dawn buys a whole bunch of interesting (and some doubtful) items from the various market stalls and vendors.
Dawn had seen a note the day before offering a reward to defeat the spectre haunting the southern ruins. As she crosses the bridge over the River Tesh, she sees a mysterious figure,still like a statue, wearing a robe like her former master, the archmage. Others appear oblivious to it. But the darkenned cowl seems focused on her. She approaches it, and just as she is about to touch it, the robe collapses onto the bridge, empty, then turns to ash and blows away in the wind. Searching the ruins, she finds some loot, but as she arrives before a ruined temple, the rubble comes to life. Once she defeats the guardian with her shatter spell and magic missiles, she enters and recieves a message from Mystra. As Dawn passes by another old temple, a gargoyle magically animates and attacks her (brought to life by another wizard?). She destroys it using her firebolt, along with some help from Mechioli, a halfling ranger from Darmshall. Mechioli confirms that it was a Zhentarim wizard who had animated the gargoyle. Mechioli casts cure wounds on Dawn and warns her to be more careful, as she is important to the Knights of Myth Drannor.
Dawn decided to go back to Arcana Lane to buy a potion at Pyzar's Potion Emporium. Along the way, someone stealthily nicked a lock of her hair. Leaving the potion shop, she spots a shop sign hidden down an alley "DRAGON WYRMLINGS FOR SALE - ENQUIRE WITHIN". As she enters, someone named Pavos buys and leaves with a green dragon wyrmling on his shoulder. Dawn makes a small purchase of a draconic item. She leaves to go visit the Amaunator Temple, but it is now closed. The hour is late, so she returns to the Zhentil Arms Inn for a short rest before she continues her search for the Spectre.
That evening, Dawn returns to the southern ruins and enters an underground tunnel she found, rubble tumbling down, alerting to all within that she has arrived. A magical trap fires mystic bolts at her from a wall, but she dodges out of the way. She finds several crypts, such as "Here lies Dalrock Blackwood, champion of the Moonsea and defender of Zhentil, loyal captain of the Zhentilar and personal guard of Zhentar himself. Rest in Bane's Might, valiant warrior." She also finds a broken idol in the final resting place of "Zhentar, founding lord of Zhentil Keep.". In another chamber, she uses mage hand to move some rubble, only to meet Jamaunga Runeshell, a crucian, here to find a friend enthralled by the spectre. As they go down the tunnel together, Dawn feels a wave of despair hit her, but the protection she feels from her magic cloak helps keep her safe. The abysall spectre attacks them both, zipping in and out walls, while sending his thralls, citizens who fell victim to its despair, to swarm them. Dawn is able to defeat the Spectre with her new Wand of Magic Missiles. She and Jamaunga bring the former thralls to safety and Dawn takes the black-horned helmet to the Zhentilar Barracks, and collects the reward from the stunned Captain.
Later that night, she met Teodric, an elf, dressed as a Zhentarim soldier, who belongs to the ancient order of the Knights of Myth Drannor. Dawn was brought to meet Huon Falconhand, the leader of Knights of Myth Drannor in hiding in Zhentil Keep. There were six old men, but she only got a few of their names: Huon, Addy, and Illis. They asked her to find the secret Zhent tunnels the assassins used to enter the Citidel of the Raven and find out those responsible for killing Hawkhelm. They tell her that once she is inside Citidel of the Raven, she must find a Purple Dragon Knight called Sir Steval Skurynd, who can help her.
The next morning, after a long rest, Dawn met Teodric, who would guide her to the base of the Dragonspire Mountains...
Dawn Solo begins her journey through the Dragonspire Mountains, searching for the secret tunnels used by the Zhentarim to infiltrate the Citidel of the Raven. She doesn't have much time, as the Zhents could be planning to take over the fortress anytime.
Dawn is spotted by a Zhent patrol, but convinces them she is here to find a dragon lair to poach some dragon eggs.
East, north or west? Dawn takes the west path and comes across a tavern on the road. She goes inside as it is getting late and rents a room for the night. Her ioun stone alerts her to danger, so instead of a killing blow, she is able to just barely survive the poisonous stab wound from her would be assassin. Desperate, Dawn almost empties her Wand of Magic Missiles as she rains down her own mystic fury, killing the assassin dead. Searching the body, she finds a sketch of her and a bounty listed. Someone, it would appear, wants her dead.
After leaving the Inn, Dawn smells death all around her. Literally. A deadly vine plant-creature has been eating travellers and tries to eat her too. Fortunately, the bottle of Natton's Noxious Weedkiller forces it to recoil in pain, allowing her to get past it.
Dawn continues north and meets a one armed, one legged old man, who says he's here to annoy any dragon poachers. He sure is annoying, thinks Dawn. In truth, he is none other than Brokalis Broadleaf, the resident wizard in Dragonden Pass. Broadleaf tells her he knew her Master but does not know what happened to him. He takes her to a huge cavern and says the back tunnel connects to the Zhent tunnels, but tells her to hurry, as this is the lair of Ksirra, a huge red dragon, who is just now arriving back home.
Fleeing down the tunnel, Dawn uses feather fall to float down a sink hole to a deep lake, and swims to the far shore. There she meets a goblin named Weaselbreath who is hunting Cloaker Spiders - the serum they secrete is priceless, 300 gold per vial on the black market - however, they failed to catch one. Weaselbreath warns her of troglydites, and to avoid the gaze of stranglers. Before they part, he points her to where the zhent tunnels can be found.
Dawn sneaks up on Abysmal Maw Beast, surprising and dispatching it with her Wand of Magic Missiles. Soon after, she meets Urldyn Rilzynge, a Drow, from the order known as the Jaezred Chaulssin (House of Shadow). Urldyn takes her to meet Merinyon Zauret, their leader, and a human named Selfaril Oumdolfin of Mulmaster, the twin brother Rassendyl, a captain within the Citadel, who is Galauntar Hawkhelm’s true killer. They need her to infiltrate the citadel and call them when it is time to attack using Selfaril's Sending Stone. Merinyon Zauret gives Dawn the incantation "Vhaeraun vuletri" needed to access the drow portals.
Dawn is able to sneak past the lair of the lurking stranglers and hide from the troglodytes, but find herself curious about a stone door covered in ancient glyphs. She is able to discern that this area is under the influence of Eisis, God of pleasures and diversions. Beyond the door, she succumbs to the illusionary feast and loses precious time. After, she finds a magically trapped chest with a glyph. Dawn is able to pick the lock and open it with mage hand to avoid the nagical blast from the glyph. Inside she finds some gems and a map.
The drow and the Zhent tunnels are connected through the drow portals, allowing her to get inside the Citadel. She goes to the local market and buys some furs, Potions of Healing and Fire Belly Tonic, but no Sir Steval. Dawn goes to the Temple of Many Gods and finds the purple knight in prayer. Sir Steval takes her inside the fortress to a safe spot to rest for the night. The plan is to confront Rassendyl the next day when he is less guarded.
The citadel shakes. Rassendyl has begun a ritual to give himself power from the ancient drow mystic fonts. Dawn and Sir Steval race to the cavern to stop him. Dawn, using the sending stone, tells Selfaril and the drow to attack now. The final battle is chaotic, drow vs zhents, Sir Steval is knocked out by a stealthy hairless humanoid figure. Urldyn engages the cultist. Dawn and Merinyon take on Shannah Nezraxxis, Rassendyl's Warlock Priestess. Dawn turns the tide in their favour by restraining Shannah with the metal net sphere given to her by Weaselbreath the Goblin. Together, they slay the restrained Warlock Priestess. Dawn blasted her with multiple magic missiles, while Merinyon sneaked a critical hit on her.
Dawn, Urldyn and Merinyon take on Rassendyl. Dawn makes full use of her Wand of Magic Missiles. However, Rassendyl is a formidable foe, striking down Urldyn with a critical hit. He then uses a thunderwave to drop Merinyon and obliterate Dawn's protective ward. With both drow dying, Dawn upcasts her magic missile, sending a volley at Rassendyl, killing him (best gold she has ever spent, buying that wand).
Once Dawn heals them with potions, the drow quickly leave, now that the Zhents no longer soil their mystic fonts. Sir Steval wakes and thanks Dawn for their victory, declaring her a "Mage of the North". Sir Steval gives her the reward promised to her by Huon Falconhand, the leader of Knights of Myth Drannor in Zhentil Keep.
