There are three different types of winged cloaks. Each is a cloak fashioned from the feathers of a gryphon, hippogriff, or pegasus. Each creature will provide enough feathers for one complete cloak. The flight spell is then cast at the normal enchantment cost. Since the magic in the feathers has an affinity for flying, the flight spell is enhanced/modified as detailed below for each type of cloak. A winged cloak can be used by both mages and non-mages alike at the normal energy cost for the flight spell (5 to cast/3 per minute to maintain). However, the energy for the spell comes from the cloak itself, not the user, as the feathers act as a natural "exclusive" powerstone. Once the energy is depleted, the cloak can no longer be used for flying. The cloak regains 1 point of energy every 8 hours in a normal mana area. When activated, a cloak will transform into wings that will allow the user to fly. In order to take off, land or maneuver, a 2 hex open radius is required around the user in all directions. The owner's own weight does not count as encumbrance while flying, only items being carried and/or worn. The cloak itself weighs 5 lbs. The wings can be targeted by an opponent and use the following stats (PD 1, DR 1, HT = 10/cripple, 60/destroy). See page B-139, CI-56, CI-74 and CI-131 for more details about flying.
