This small bulky shortsword is made from adamantine and has a distinctive green-cast to its blade. Attached to its pommel is a perfect crystal sphere that emits a faint white glow.

"Misericorde" is a Small Adamantine Dwarvencraft Hellforged Smoking Short Sword +2.

It has been enchanted with magic to provide a +2 enhancement bonus to hit and damage.

As an adamantine weapon, it has a natural ability to bypass hardness when sundering weapons or attacking objects, ignoring hardness less than 20. Weapons normally made of steel that are made of adamantine have one-third more hit points than normal. Adamantine has 40 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 20.

As a dwarvencraft weapon (see Races of Stone, p159), it is stronger and harder than a comparable masterwork item. A dwarvencraft item’s hardness increases by 2, and it gains an additional 10 hit points. In addition, it gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws. All of these effects stack with the similar bonuses for magic items if the dwarvencraft item is made magical. So "Misericorde" has hardness 27 (20+4+2+1) and 37 hit points (2+20+10+5).

As a hellforged weapon, its hardness is increased by 1 and its hit points are increased by 5. A hellforged weapon deals an extra 1 point of damage to any foe that the wielder flanks. Hellforged weapons have an affinity to becoming Speed weapons or Swords of Subtlety. Crafters of hellforged weapons find that their handiwork rewards good tactics and helps their wielders focus attacks on individual foes. A good creature that wears hellforged armor or wields a hellforged weapon takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls because it finds the innate vileness of the item uncomfortable and distracting.

Upon command, a smoking weapon (see Lords of Darkness, p180) fills the wielder’s area (a 5-foot square) with noxious smoke equal to a stinking cloud spell. The smoke affects any creature that enters the wielder’s area (such as to make a grapple attempt) and provides one-half concealment for the wielder. The wielder is not affected by the nauseating fumes and can see through them normally. The smoke dissipates instantly if the wielder leaves the smoke-filled square, forming again in whatever area the wielder ends his movement. A creature with a face larger than 5 ft by 5 ft. still only has one square enveloped in smoke; only attacks that cross or enter the smoke-filled area are subject to the miss chance. The smoke lasts 5 rounds before the wielder must use another standard action (command) to re-start it.

It currently has a Lesser Fiendslayer Crystal attached to it.

A weapon with a Lesser Fiendslayer Crystal deals an extra 1d6 points of damage to evil outsiders and is treated as good-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

The Lesser Fiendslayer Crystal can be attached to any weapon with at least a +1 magic enhancement bonus. Attaching or removing the Lesser Fiendslayer Crystal from a weapon is a move action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

    History

  • The dwarven mastersmith Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer operates Foehammer's Forge in the town of Triboar, north of Waterdeep.
  • Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer has been seeking a priceless dwarven artifact called the "Tome of Moradin". He has offered to forge one piece of armor or weapon at half-price or arrange for a non-armor/weapon and any additional enchantments at 25% off to anyone or group who brings him the "Tome of Moradin".
  • Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet and the rest of the Shadow Stalkers found the "Tome of Moradin" in some ruins deep in the Kryptarden Forest and returned it to Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer.
  • True to his word, Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer, forged items of power for each of the Shadow Stalkers. Using new found secrets unlocked from the "Tome of Moradin", he forged a small adamantine dwarvencraft hellforged short sword for Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet, then magically enhanced its combat abilities further and turned it into the smoking weapon now known as "Misericorde".
  • Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet wields "Misericorde" in one hand and "Joyeuse" in the other, creating a whirlwind of gnomish destruction and death in any battle.
