This small silver-white shortsword is made from mithral and has a distinctive silver sheen and feather pattern along the edges of its blade. A runic phrase describing a heroic deed runs along the center of the blade. The base of the blade is decorated with a single golden sun, just above the guard of the pommel. Attached to its pommel is an amethyst carved in the shape of a humanoid skull. In addition, a distant hymn of praise to the forces of good is audible with each swing of "Joyeuse".

"Joyeuse" is a Small Mithral Dwarvencraft Soulforged Sacred Short Sword +2.

It has been enchanted with magic to provide a +2 enhancement bonus to hit and damage.

As a small mithral weapon, it only weighs 0.5 lbs, and is able to overcome DR as though it were silver.

As a dwarvencraft weapon (see Races of Stone, p159), it is stronger and harder than a comparable masterwork item. A dwarvencraft item’s hardness increases by 2, and it gains an additional 10 hit points. In addition, it gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws. All of these effects stack with the similar bonuses for magic items if the dwarvencraft item is made magical. So "Joyeuse" has hardness 22 (15+4+2+1) and 36 hit points (1+20+10+5).

As a soulforged weapon, its hardness is increased by 1 and its hit points are increased by 5. A soulforged weapon deals an extra 2 points of damage against a foe who is charging. This adjustment applies only from the point at which the foe begins charging until he resolves the attack (or attacks) at the end of the charge. Soulforged weapons have an affinity to becoming Defending weapons or Holy Avengers. Although soulforged weapons are tools of offense, they are also receptive to defensive magic. An evil creature that wears soulforged armor or wields a soulforged weapon takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls because it finds the innate purity of the item uncomfortable and distracting.

By speaking the appropriate command word, you can activate "Joyeuse" Sacred enchantment, which will sheathe it in luminous positive energy. If you are not undead, this energy does not harm you; otherwise, you take 1 point of Charisma damage for each round that you hold the weapon. This effect lasts until you speak another command word to end it. While activated, "Joyeuse" deals an extra 1d6 points of damage to any undead target (or 2d6 points against an evil outsider) on a successful hit. Also, it is treated as good-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

It currently has a Lesser Truedeath Crystal attached to its pommel

A Lesser Truedeath Crystal adds adds an extra 1d6 points of damage to undead. The weapon also functions as a ghost touch weapon (DMG 224).

The Lesser Truedeath Crystal can be attached to any weapon with at least a +1 magic enhancement bonus. Attaching or removing the Lesser Truedeath Crystal from a weapon is a move action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

    History

  • The dwarven mastersmith Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer operates Foehammer's Forge in the town of Triboar, north of Waterdeep.
  • Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer has been seeking a priceless dwarven artifact called the "Tome of Moradin". He has offered to forge one piece of armor or weapon at half-price or arrange for a non-armor/weapon and any additional enchantments at 25% off to anyone or group who brings him the "Tome of Moradin".
  • Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet and the rest of the Shadow Stalkers found the "Tome of Moradin" in some ruins deep in the Kryptarden Forest and returned it to Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer.
  • True to his word, Ghelryn "Goldhand" Foehammer, forged items of power for each of the Shadow Stalkers. Using new found secrets unlocked from the "Tome of Moradin", he forged a small mithral dwarvencraft soulforged short sword for Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet, then magically enhanced its combat abilities further and turned it into the sacred weapon now known as "Joyeuse".
  • Katharina 'Whisper' Shadowfeet wields "Joyeuse" in one hand and "Misericorde" in the other, creating a whirlwind of gnomish destruction and death in any battle.
