This well crafted greatsword has been well used. Its crossguard is adorned with a holy symbol of Torm dedicated to the domains of healing and strength.

Horstag's Greatsword is at least a magic Greatsword +1.

At a minimum, Horstag's Greatsword has been enchanted with magic to provide a +1 enhancement bonus to hit and damage.

When he was alive, Horstag, Paladin of Torm, was able to use the special holy symbol of Torm built into his crossguard as a divine focus for his spells, and was able to further cast spells from the healing and strength domain at +1 caster level.

With the spirit of Horstag, Paladin of Torm, inhabiting the blade, it is likely an intelligent weapon. However, the full capability of any other magical properties associated with Horstag's Greatsword are currently a mystery. Presumably, the spirit of Horstag, Paladin of Torm, would be able to benefit from the special holy symbol of Torm built into his crossguard to cast divine spells, just as he had in life.

    History:

  • Horstag was once a human paladin of Torm and a member of the Ironguard Company.
  • Horstag and his companions in the Ironguard had been tasked with the transport of five golden eggs.
  • The Cult of the Dragon ambushed the Ironguard. Horstag managed to escape with one of the golden eggs. The fate of his companions and the other eggs are unknown.
  • Horstag died from his injuries shortly after hiding the golden egg with some local farmers, Stedd and Shandrill Lythwood, just outside Featherdale.
  • The golden egg soon hatched, revealing a human baby boy. Stedd and Shandrill Lythwood raised the boy as their own, giving him the name Horstag to honor the fallen paladin's sacrifice.
  • When Horstag Lythwood came of age, his parents gave him the fallen paladin's greatsword, to aid him in his journey as he seeks out the secrets of his past.
  • It has been said that the spirit of the fallen paladin resides inside Horstag's Greatsword so it can guide and protect the young Horstag, helping him in his struggles against the Cult of the Dragon.
  • For now, the spirit of the fallen paladin has suppressed the sword's magic so as not to draw any undue attention to the young Horstag Lythwood, but will likely expose it's power and abilities over time as its charge proves capable of handling ever greater dangers.
  • The young Horstag Lythwood has been seen amongst the "Fellowship of the Shield", an adventuring company in Featherdale.
