This scimitar is made from a single talon of a colossal red dragon. There is a fire opal (2,000 gp value) set into the crosspiece of the scimitar’s hilt that glows with a dim red light. The blade is hot to the touch.

Crimdrac’s Claw is a red-dragonfang scimitar +1 (Draconomicon: page 117). Its magical enchantment provides a base +1 to hit and damage in combat. The dragon fang properties allow it to do +1 point of fire damage on a successful strike. This fire damage is treated as a non-magical extraordinary feature and it does not stack with any other type of fire damage that may also be dealt by this weapon.

Skill checks can provide the following information:

  • Crimdrac was a former red dragon and an ally of Dracandros of the Crimson, a rogue Red Wizard of Thay (know history or local-Dalelands/Thay DC 15).
  • Player Characters can roll against Know Arcana or Know nature to determine that the blade is made from a dragon claw (DC 15) or red dragon claw (DC 20).
  • It is made from one of the claws of the dracolich Crimdrac (Know Arcana DC 25).
  • It is thought to be Crimdrac’s phylactery: Draconomicon; page 120 (Know Arcana DC 30).

    History:

  • Kilzadi Litecaster recovered Crimdrac's Claw from the lair of Bareris, a Red Wizard and former apprentice to Dracandros, who recently went rogue and insane after being exposed to the Shadow Weave (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 6).
  • Venthavaxus, aka Volcanix, a red dragon and ally of Bareris, fled with fear upon seeing Kilzadi Litecaster draw forth Crimdrac's Claw (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 9).
  • Nartheling, the great fang dragon and Master of the Mountain, agreed to have his agents acquire Crimdrac's Claw from Kilzadi Litecaster and deliver it to a mysterious purple-robed female necromancer (see Darkness Rising, Dreams of Darkness V).
  • Leogen, a naive young merchant prince and the foppish incompetent grandson of Helena Treskeden, one of the Seven Burghers that rule Harrowdale's Council had been instructed by his grandmother to purchase Crimdrac's Claw from Kilzadi Litecaster, however Risca Foraker got to him first (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 19 - Addendum).
  • The dwarf Barundar, Egg Farmer, offers Kilzadi Litecaster a mysterious package in exchange for Crimdrac's Claw, but Kilzadi Litecaster refuses the exchange (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 20).
  • Kurudravos, a true gold dragon wyrmling, disguised as "Kurud the Paladin" seems to fear Crimdrac's Claw and keeps his distance from Kilzadi Litecaster and warns him of the evil aura coming from the scimitar (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 21).
  • Crimdrac's Claw was stolen from Kilzadi Litecaster after he was seduced by Sindi Malorn, who he thought was his one true love at the time. In truth, she was an agent of Shar (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 26).
  • Nartheling, the great fang dragon and Master of the Mountain, has been betrayed. He instructs the dwarf Barundar, Egg Farmer, to send the package to his agent and instruct him to rain down vengeance on his enemies. "Remember… No Mercy" (see Darkness Rising, Dreams of Darkness VI).
  • Sandi Malorn and her sister Sindi captured Kurudravos, a true gold dragon wyrmling, son of Yenamros, and half-brother to Okul Tarmikos, since their plans for Crimdrac's Claw require a worthy sacrifice to draw the great Crimdrac back into the fold and to serve their dark mistress, Shar, once more (see Darkness Rising, Dreams of Darkness VI).
