A DC 10 skill check (know local –Dalelands, Cormyr or Sembia) or DC 15 INT check to know that it is a chondathan steelsword.

It has been enchanted with magic to provide a +1 enhancement bonus to hit and damage.

    History

  • The Seekers of Faerun found the "Black Blade of Galath the Brigand" in a secret treasure cache beneath the ancient keep called Galath's Roost.
  • Risca claimed and wielded the "Black Blade of Galath the Brigand" for a time, but his trusty axe, Guifoon, got jealous.
  • So Risca sold the "Black Blade of Galath the Brigand" (as well as a Cormyrian Goblinthrasher) to Leogen, a naive young merchant prince and the foppish incompetent grandson of Helena Treskeden, one of the Seven Burghers that rule Harrowdale's Council (see Darkness Rising, Chapter 19 - Addendum).
  • A Sembian merchant soon swindled the "Black Blade of Galath the Brigand" (and the Cormyrian Goblinthrasher) away from Leogen. Since then, the "Black Blade of Galath the Brigand" has been available for sale on the open market.
