    This is a slender black iron wand.

    The Shadow Wand of Hold Person is a shadow weave magic item usable by a bard, cleric, sorcerer or wizard. This wand was created using the arcane version of hold person (3rd level spell) at a caster level of 5. Since Hold Person is an enchantment spell which is more favoured by the shadow weave, the wand automatically gets a +1 bonus to save DC and caster level checks against spell resistance (already included in the stats below).

    Anyone who does not have the shadow weave magic feat suffers 1d4 temporary wisdom damage every time a charge is used. With the "Use Magic Device" skill, one can emulate a shadow weave caster to avoid taking Wisdom damage when using shadow weave items (DC 30 check).

    The effect is as though black tendrils are enveloping the target. If not a shadow weave user, then black tendrils also envelop the user too.

    Casting time = 1 standard action
    Range = 150 feet
    Target = one humanoid creature
    Duration = 5 rounds
    Saving throw = Will DC 15 (allowed each round as a full round action)
    Spell resistance = yes (vs. 1d20 +6)
    Charges = 22 (when initially found, current value = 4,950 gp)

    The command word is “Dark embrace” spoken in the Mulhorandi tongue.

    History:

  • This particular "Shadow Wand of Hold Person" was crafted by Bareris, a Red Wizard and former apprentice to Dracandros, who recently went rogue and insane after being exposed to the Shadow Weave. It was his first successful attempt at crafting a shadoweave magic item.
  • Gideon Fireforged recovered the Shadow Wand of Hold Person after the defeat of Bareris.
