Last Updated: June 21, 2023

  • Campaign: Darkness Rising
  • Price: 5,000 gp
  • Body Slot: throat
  • Caster Level: 9th
  • Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) abjuration (shadow weave)
  • Activation: Immediate (command)
  • Weight: 1 lb

This delicate gold amulet is suspended from a fine gold chain and set with three small tomb-jade gems.

The Amulet of Dark Fortune is similar in function to an Amulet of Fortune Prevailing (see Magic Item Compendium, p69), except that it was created using the Shadow Weave.

You can activate an Amulet of Dark Fortune to reroll a saving throw. You must activate this ability before the success or failure of the saving throw has been determined, and you must use the second result, even if it’s lower. You can’t use this ability if you have already rerolled the save for any reason.

An Amulet of Dark Fortune functions once per day. Anyone who does not have the shadow weave magic feat suffers 1d4 temporary wisdom damage every time the Amulet of Dark Fortune is used. With the "Use Magic Device" skill, one can emulate a shadow weave caster to avoid taking Wisdom damage when using shadow weave items (DC 30 check).

    History:

  • The Seekers of Faerun found the Amulet of Dark Fortune on Jebalek the Gnome after he ambushed them at the temple in Sembia.
  • The Seekers of Faerun kept the Amulet of Dark Fortune in case they needed it later.
  • The Seekers of Faerun used the Amulet of Dark Fortune as part of the fee to gain entry to the drow city of Maerimydra.
  • The Amulet of Dark Fortune was last seen in the possession of a drow captain of the guard.
