Swanwear is made from finely woven mithral chain links that glistens with a blue-black sheen, as if it were covered in oily liquid sapphire. Mithral plates sculpted to look like swan feathers have been strategically placed on the armor to improve its form and function. One particular pattern over the heart resembles an image of the sun made from brightly polished swan feathers with a golden tinge. The center of the sun has a space for a bright crystal that gleams and sparkles in the light.

Swanwear is a Blueshine Daylight Easy Travel Reinforced Segmented Vital Coverage Mithral Chain Shirt +1.

Speed while wearing a typical mithral shirt is 30 feet. The armor has an arcane spell failure chance of 10%, a maximum Dexterity bonus of +6, and no armor check penalty. It is considered light armor and weighs 10 lbs.

Swanwear has been further reinforced to provide added protection. This increases its armor bonus by +1, but it weighs 2 pounds more than a typical chainshirt for a total of 12 lbs (see Dragon Magazine 358).

Swanwear has also been crafted into segments to increase its articulation. This increases its maximum Dexterity bonus by +1 (see Dragon Magazine 358).

In addition, Swanwear has been crafted to provide vital coverage to vulnerable areas. This grants an additional +2 armor bonus against attacks made to confirm a critical hit (see Dragon Magazine 358).

It has been enchanted with a +1 enhancement bonus to its armor AC.

The blueshine property makes the armor immune to acid damage and rusting effects. In addition, the wearer gains +2 competence bonus to hide skill (except when the daylight property is activated).

When activated, Swanwear glows with the brilliance of a daylight spell. This effect functions for up to 30 minutes per day, but the duration need not be continuous; you can turn the effect on and off with a swift action.

While wearing Swanwear, you can carry up to a medium load as if it were a light load (ignoring the maximum Dexterity bonus, check penalty, and reduced speed normally incurred by a medium load). These reductions apply only to penalties for the load you carry, not to any reduction in speed caused by the armor itself. In addition, you can walk for up to 10 hours in a day before having to make Constitution checks to avoid taking nonlethal damage (PH 164).

Swanwear is part of the Mode of the Battlestar magic item set.

Swanwear currently has a Lesser Crystal of Lifekeeping attached to it.

A Lesser Crystal of Lifekeeping grants a +3 competence bonus on saving throws against energy drain attacks, inflict spells, death spells, and death effects. A Lesser Crystal of Lifekeeping functions only when attached to armor enchanted with at least a +1 bonus to AC. Attaching or removing the Lesser Crystal of Lifekeeping from a suit of armor is a move action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

    History:

  • To improve her acrobatic and defensive combat abilities Swan Battlestar commissioned Thorik, a Master Smith amongst the Dwarves of Glen in Mistledale, to adjust and improve her mithral chain shirt.
  • To protect her new armor, she enlisted Noristour the Mage to blue shine it and to improve her combat skills against the drow, shadows and other creatures of the dark, Noristour the Mage also gave it the ability to blaze like the sun.
